Can I take a switchwire back to the board ?

Just a question I’ve always been taught no but some of the older guys say yes and newer guys say no and just wondering if anyone has a clear answer for me ?

Seen it numerous times in a connector in the board and then on to the light. Not something I've done unless controlling a contractor but can't really see an issue with it as it will be inside the enclosure.

My statement should have read “I’m not sure IF it’s bad practice or against regs”

As in I don’t think it’s either…. Not “it’s one or the other”

yeah exactly that the “new school” guys when we come to the board say no but the “old school guys” say there’s nothing wrong with it

My definition of a switch wire, is perm live an switched live, why would you take such a wire back to the CU unless using it as some sort of junction box / enclosure.

Thanks I had some idea it’s bad practice but just been told different things ?

it was a switchwire on a lighting circuit from a photocell taken back to the board and the connections made off in the dis board and didn’t know if it was against regs or just bad practice ?

I think anyone telling you it was against the regs would need to tell you which one it would be against. Don't think I can think of one.

That sounds fine to me, I would happily do something similar.
