@DS.. you mean with the blades down?

:) first thing google showed up...!!

it will be a ssimilar set up though as you say with rectifiers, invertors and phase sync..
Yep, that's why I plumped for DC for a smaller model. I've not seen any standalone AC->AC phase sync tech for grid hook up.

Maybe they're AC and probably supply a battery charger for deep cycle batts via a charger?

Almost certainly DC - most SMA PV inverters can actually be switched into turbine mode to be turned into windy boy inverters.

On my way home every night I pass a house in the countryside which has a wind turbine in the garden which stands approx 30 feet high, I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if this wind turbine's output is AC or DC?

try knocking the door mate and ask the occupier if you show your interest they may show you how its configured

Most small wind turbines are DC at 12, 24 or 48V and can be directly connected to a battery charger or suitably sized inverter. Larger (>5 kW) will be producing 'wild AC' where the frequency and voltage varies with wind speed with the larger sizes being 3 phase. This output will be rectified to DC and then connected through a grid-tied inverter to produce 230V 50Hz AC.

The 10m turbine we are putting up in a couple of weeks is rectified in the nacell and is sent direct to the consumer unit as a steady A/C supply.
