Is there any requirement to put mains powered smoke and heat alarms in a total rewire?

if it's single family occupancy, then the answer is no, but it's stupid not to fit a couple for the sake of an extra ÂŁ100 on a 3 grand job.

part B for new and refurbished dwellings. But don't ask me what exactly constitutes a refurbishment.
I always fit them, as tel says for the difference it makes to a rewire.....

No requirement on a non-multiple occupancy rewire, but why wouldn't you? Same as anything, there's usually room for improvements during a rewire, not just like for like circuit replacements.

If its a house, its my understanding yes, if its a bungalow then no.

More to the point why wouldn't you fit them during a total rewire??

Thanks guys, the price is to the bone on this one. I normally do it as a matter of course but this particular job is one of a kind.....
