Can someone explain this wiring?

Hi guys,

I fitted this ceiling light a few days ago for a relation and whilst there has been no issues with it, the wiring has left me somewhat baffled. Can someone explain why it has 3 earth wires? I am going to assume one is an earth for the light itself and one is an earth for the metal base, but why the second earth from the base?

What I did was (see 3rd image when connected to ceiling wiring) I took one of the earths attached to the fitting's metal base and connected it to the light fitting's metal ceiling bracket and I took the earth from the light fitting's 3 wires and connected it to a Wago on its own (red circle showing the wore before it was placed in a Wago) and left the 3rd earth (the second one attached to the fitting's base). But it has not set right with me since hence me asking you for some professional advice.

I would assume that unused wire somehow earths the rest of the fitting... but theres no way of knowing without a continuity test between it, and any exposed metalwork.

Did it maybe have a little tape tag on it saying it was an earth?

It really should have been identified by design. A green and yellow marking somewhere on the insulation.
