Running sub main to shed - SWA.

Can the plumbers put his alkerthene (dodgy spelling there I know:cheesy pipe in there also ?

Any reg on this, spacing required etc....?

in all honesty, i dont see a problem. its not going to be at a pressure that will damage the cable, and if the pipe does get damaged, then its likely that the cable will have been damaged at the same time anyway. im expecting flak for saying this, but i would.

Yes he can, as SWA is considered to have mechanical protection. Hence its use. As I don't have a regs book to hand I cannot tell you what reg no. this would be.

i would say that when burying cables, i wouldn't use the SWA as CPC, due to the likelyhood of it getting damaged. trhats my opinion, based on seeing lots of damaged armour on buried cables.

Common sense says SWA and plumbing pipe in the same trench would be fine. Just make sure the plumber does half the digging.

he will probably make it off into a sink. what use is a cable with a tap on each end?

spacing factors generally apply to bunched cables in trunking ect, i cant recall any regs which require space factor needed in this situation especially underground as the ambient temp will not rise to excessive levels

Correct, siting power cables next to utility supplies and internet cables on top of sewer pipes etc. Is perfectly the norm. I can't see any problem with putting SWA next to any other cable or pipe work.

Hi Marie-Claire , if my memory had been on the ball i think it would have been more to do with segregation of services rather than temp dissipation ,
Having said that , do be carefully if you ever do speck a buried cable as you will have to take account of it and down rate it's load carrying ability more than a suspended one .
