Can you put a150w bulb into a 250w floodlight fitting please?

I know the 250w halogen bulb is bigger. But can you buy a longer 150w one to fit please?

I've not seen one but you can CFL or LED replacement that will fit at a much lower power consumption.

Different control gear needed for 150w. The physical size of the lamp isn't an issue.
If fitting LED (corn lamp), the existing control gear would have to be disconnected.
As a point, you could use a 250w.

Just looking at some old 250w MBFU uplights in a church, today. Buzzing like planes flying over until they warm up. Looking to go LED, corn. It must have been on my mind.
Just swap 'em then, eh!

Sorry I'll be more specific as cfl bulbs do not fit.
Will a linear halogen bulb fit a 250w/500w floodlight? A standard 150w linear bulb may be too short.

YES you can get 150W versions of the j type halogen lamps,
they also make a smaller / shorter one that is 150w.
but in the j size which i think is 111mm yes they are available
maybe not a common size,
So will be harder to find
but a supplier should be able to get them
This will only work on incandesant lamps NOT dis-charge lamps.
if you try it on a discharge lamp ,you will over run it, and destroy it in short order.
