Cancel elecsa assessment/postpone help

I have my elecsa assessment coming up at the end of July (my first) and I was going to fit a new CCU for my in laws which will be replacing old wylex fuses and possibly a rewire. This job is now not convenient at the moment for the assessment. With me being a new business and work isn't exactly flooding in at the moment would you suggest cancelling/postponing til a later date? I've done a few jobs but they were only minor things like changing lights/sockets so far.

You need to talk to Elecsa but I think that they want to see a substantial job for evaluation so it may be better to postpone it. Depending on the notice given they will probably want to charge. Good luck.

That's what i thought. I've just looked on the paperwork and if the cancellation is within 21 days of the assessment, they will charge.

Do your own consumer unit swap for the assessment, gets it out of the way then

yeah agree with amp. ! if you rent mention to your landlord your willing to provide him with a free upgrade. prob work out cheaper than cancellation. If you dont rent and you got a Good CU board already.....Change it anyway..Still cheaper no doubt..think it like over 200 to cancel.....There nothing wrong with doing your own property. Elecsa are very cool and understand your scenario and all they want see is that your competent

The CCU doesn't really need changing but I am putting downlights in the kitchen of my house and was thinking of replacing the lighting MCB for an RCBO as it isn't RCD protected. Would that still be enough for elecsa?

what is your CU config. if it's to 16th with 1 RCD, then replace it with a dual RCD board. then do a full EIC. then you will have your lighting RCD protected and a major job for elecsa.

I doubt it, much better to change cu to 17th as telectrix suggests

It ll be much cheaper to swap your board then cancel, Im sure its somat like 250 notes if you cancel

If you cancel how would you deal with any notifiable work that you asked to do? Surely you don't want to be in a position of having to turn work away do you?

Replacing your own CU would be the best course of action IMHO

Call elecsa and ask if they'll move it.....I've had NIC move a couple before and they do understand if it's not your fault. I've not been charged if you call them and ask....likely they'll waive. You must be outside of 21 days anyway?

If its the first assessment then the member is not registered. Yes, you have 30 days to notify but without a date for the assessment how can you judge the 30 days.

Use the green forms....you are going through the registration process anyway and it's allowed. May just be NIC but I can't see why it would differ.

Just put the installation date on the certificate and notify as soon as possible afterwards?

[Edit] Sorry, was rushing out for a mo'. What I mean is do your best with what you can. The certificate date is important but I can't imagine missing a 30-day notification period would be a shooting offence if you're in the process of registering. "Best endeavours" would be quite acceptable.....certainly compared to DIYers, no-registered electricians and so on.
