How often does a caravan site/park need an eicr?

Park owner today reckons his insurance only req it every 3 yrs to be done.. I showed guidance note 3 and told him its a anually, he still was afamant.. Hes phoning his insurers tmo to check.. Looking forwad to the answer

The guidelines from the IET are just that, guidelines, not an absolute requirement.
It is up to the designer of an installation to set the initial period before The next inspection. Then it is up to the person carrying out each inspection to set the period from then onwards.

The insurance probably do only need it once every three years for their purposes, that is up to them. In the same way that a mortgage company may only require it to be done once and a licensing authority may require it every 6 months if they wish.

So if his insurance& liences deemed 3yrs testing ok.. And i as the electrician gave three year cert this if i deemed it good enough install to do so.. This would be ok even tho against iet guidlines? I think ill be sticking to the guidlines as its a special location exposed to all weather.! But it certainly leaves the door open to another company willing to give 3 years if i dont and theregore loose contract to that site

My moneys on the office monkeys at the insurance company getting their wires crossed on the guidelines for the Caravan Park system and the Caravans - the latter having guidelines of 3years and the former a year.

Yes you could be right.. Caravans themselves (internal from connection plug at hook up) is three years, and the individual van owners responsibility usually private.. The site wiring up to the socket outlet is the park owners responsibilty and needs an annual inspection.

If it is touring caravans then every 3 months, some may say one year, but that is for statics only.

I go with Dave too.
The condition of the the installation and records available will influence the tester as to the next recommended date of inspection.
It may well be less than the guidance, or..............

I have no problem with it being less than the guidance but to give 3x the guidelines seems wrong to me.! I wouldnt have a prob a cvan site been given 6mnths eicr its a special location open to all sorts of hazards.! I just cant belive a cvan site can be given or 3/5 yrs cert

It is maybe that the insurance company are aware that the site is routinely checked every six months and tested every year, and as Dave alluded to are happy with a three year report.
But I would agree with you too, it would be a brave man/woman to recommend an EICR greater than the guidance , given the notes in the guidance, and the way litigation is now.
As long as you put your period of next inspection on the report, it is then up to the owner to follow that or ignore it.
We cannot police the owners . As long as we comply with the requirements of the statutory bodies in the notes, and the report is accurate , the rest is up to the owner/operator of the site.

If they are caravan club members I think they have to have it inspected every year for their annual site inspection.
