OK guy need some help, as i am a little confused may have a rewire job for a small bungalow with a caravan in the back garden which would require a supply as someone will be living in it (legal gypsy lol)

what is the best way to go about this.

I was going to supply the van from a spare way in cu in the bungalow, i think it's tn-s supply need to check.

do i have to provide an earth rod for the caravan or just main bonding.

also the kitchen is very small in the bungalow is it necessary to run a ring cct, no cooker cct just about 4 double socket no extractor fan etc.

best wishes and thanks in advance for any replies.

Why dont you run electric hook up supply to the caravan as in a caravan park on a power post. Special locations in the BRB or BGB if you have it will cover it.

As you are doing a rewire you may as well keep the kitchen on its own supply and add a cooker circuit.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to reply.

yes i will be rewiring the bungalow and the kitchen will be on a seperate cct but does it have to be a ring cct, i dont mind putting in aring cct but the kitchen is tiny.

thats a good idea about the post for the van the caravan will eventuallyy be going and alog cabin to be put in its place eventually.

thanks mark

If the DNO main supply is TN-S then there is no reason to TT the caravan. Only rod it, if it's a PME incoming supply.... So, nothing stopping you supplying this caravan from one of the MCB's/RCBO's in the bungalows CU.

You design your circuit requirements accordingly, appropriate to the locations needs. That goes for all rooms or areas, including your small kitchen. If you think a radial circuit will suffice for the kitchen's power requirements then so be it. Personally i like the adaptability of ring circuits, but i'm not the designer here, You are!!

Thanks much apreciated, was just reading about exported pme and it said tt or main bond so thanks.

yes i would normally put a ring in the kitchen but it is tiny literally, no cooker cct no extractor or hob only about 4 double socket and a fused spur for boiler, will leave it up to the customer incase they want to add more at a later date.

thanks e54

You can't export/extend a PME systems bonding to a caravan. it's either got to be TN-S or a TT system mate!! What you have been reading about relates to shed's, garages, outbuildings and the like, ...Not caravans!!

please bear with me as i have not been working in the electrical game for nearly 7 months bloody recession.

would this be ok for a caravan which wil evntually be moved and alog cabin built

thanks

Re kitchen, a 4mm2 radial may well be ok, same ooopfh so-to-speak but the discussion anout ring vs. radial will rage on. As E54 says, your call man! If you go 4 mil radial though watch out trying to wedge 3 4mm cores in a socket back, c'est possible, mais tres difficile!Best if luck,Spartykus

The DNO supply is TN-S which i will be exporting to the caravan this is correct no.

If the DNO supply was TNC-S i understand this would not be possible.

With a TN-S DNO supply that shouldn't be a problem for you to extend the TN-S equipotential zone to the caravan. If it's not a great distance, a separate bonding cable shouldn't be a problem to provide either...

Thanks for all the replies guys think i will put a ring in the kitchen.

do i have to run the bonding from the van back to the bunglow or just to the board in the van.

thanks, and apologies for all the question's haven't had my head in the book's for a long time.

time to get the head in the book's again.

best wishes

You will either have to run a separate 10mm bond back from the caravan to the MET which is normally the house CU earth bar or an earth block at the cut out, or you can install a combined CPC/Bonding conductor from the MET and then make the board in the vans earth bar a Earth Marshaling Point (EMT)

This is if you did decide to extend the TN-S out to the van. If you decide to TT it then yes you can use the eart bar in the van board as the MET for this installation.

If the whole thing is a temporary measure, why not just run some 10mm 3 core SWA from a new dedicated circuit in the house, out to an adaptable box on a post to terminate it, connect to a standard 16A ceeform socket (commando). That way, caravan gets to plug in via the 16A and once it's gone you've got a fully exported PME for your cabin.

Simples life, Sergei.

Oh - and smallest kitchen I've ever done was 1 x 32A cooker and 1 x double socket for a fridge!
