hi can any one give me info on wiring carbon monoxide alarms .....would it be ok to connect to a curcuit supplying smoke alarms ?

Hi rapidrich,

I cant think there would be a problem provided the circuit was clearly identified. The current draw of these alarms is low so I dont believe there would be a loading issue (of course does depend how much is on it!).

It is classed as a safety circuit(?) I think, unless some of the guys here know more etc.

Hope this is of help.

Best wishes

Rex

Hi Rapidrich,

Its an interesting point and what ever I say possibly will get some discussion going. It is open to interpretation and I believe the best advice I can give is that for safety services according to BS7671 it does say in there that it should be protected on its own circuit. Other thoughts, which are quite valid and logical, are that you can wire it from a well used lighting circuit provided the unit has battery backup.

I guess the best method is to check with whoever you are registered with and see what they say. It would be your call from the installer / designer point of view and if it is in keeping with the manufacturers' instructions you should be fine. You can download manuals from most manufacturers websites and give them a read. Its easier to do that than have to move cable!

Carbon monoxide detection is different to smoke / heat detection and has subtle differences in the way that householders should deal alarms.

Hope this is of help,

Best wishes,

Rex

Always install on own circuit and interconnect (just use 3 core n cpc from first alarm onwards)...they do make a hell of a noise when the go off interconnected though :D
