Speaking with my boss this afternoon regarding furthering my career in the trade. He told me to have a think about what area i'd like to progress in, estimating, design, contracts management etc. He'd then have a look at some courses and planning a route forward. I dont't really know what way to go. Just wandered what you guys thought were the best options. Thanks

plc's mate. get into them, do the course. also consider fire alarms, CCTV, intruder alarms. much easier work ( physically ) and you get a bit of respect.

Electrical Design -easily sorted, 2396 is the start. Then Fire Alarms, then Emergency Lighting.

Look up how many modules are in the Fire Alarm courses from FIA, and see the prices for the BS documents.
It'd be good to get an employer to pay for that.

Try contract management if you go down the more specialist routes you limit your opportunities, if you learn contract management techniques you can apply it to any industry later on if you want to get out of the wonderful wacky world of electrical installation or become an old crock who cannot get into awkward places or is fed up working in the cold and dusty places. Plus you have the chance to have more control of what you are doing instead of being told what to do.
