need to "pick your brains" after deciding to retrain and become an electrician at the beginning of last year, and so far having completed my level 2 and just waiting to do the 4 weeks of practical classes for level 3, which have been booked for the first 2 weeks of june, and first two weeks of july, (give or take for any exams re-sit i may have to do) from around the beginning of aug i would be looking around for work, BUT i am fully aware that having all the qualifications and no experience working in the field is not something a possible new boss would be looking for, so i am wondering what would be the best place to get a start in doing actuall work in the trade, baring in mind i may not quite be up to speed on the job, so would need a patient and understandig employee, baring in mind the main purpose of the first few months would be to build up refrences, and be able to add relevent sections onto my cv, given that the education bit is the only part i am able to fill in regarding this trade.

ideal location wold be in the reading area for the first few months.

thank you in advance for any tips.

Have you contacted prospective employers and explained the situation?

The may not want to pay a full electrician rate, but you could both agree on a lower pay?

As long as people know you’re there to learn, not to just be a skivvy.

AS above, offer your services to every electrical contractor in a 25 mile radius of your house. offer to work for min wage to begin with, which will easily cover your travel and pay yourself a very basic wage for the first 6 months. Then re-negotiate your rates or move on with 6 months solid experience under your belt.
