Lifted carpet on landing today which gave me a little jip putting it back down. What's everyone's thoughts on carpet tools, stretcher or kicker? Any hints and tips welcomed. :)

carpet kickers , i've found are useful for one thing only, scratching the dog!. i use my size 9's never had a problem.

I always stress to customers that I'm not a carpet fitter, and that they may have to get someone in to sort the carpets out. I spend enough money on toys er sorry tools!

Yeah have used the chisel behind the grippers. Its got to come back up tomorrow anyway so will sort it out properly. It was just a bit 'bulgy' when i put it down quickly this afternoon. Will have to make sure my boots are clean so I can give it a good shuffle kick!

I had a kicker and some toerag nicked it. Now, as bugsy says, I have an extra wide bolster chisel, just knock it in under the skirting, it's pretty good. As has been said, I tell people if they want a professional fitting, get a professional.

As said, I am an electrician, not a carpet fitter, every customer is made aware of my poor carpet laying, plastering and plumbing abilities.

Whilst I will endevour to help out, I usually add the cost of this to my quotes and get the right man for the job.....and make a couple of extra quid too!

Tell them straight at the begining and add it to your quote......"The full proffessionbal service!!!"

i got the tripple set from b and q a couple of years ago, kicker chisel and nasty stanley type knife. the kicker is great and the chisel was great for fitting our stair carpet so it paid for itself there
