Went to a job today. Upon opening cupboard to service head. I am faced with what can only be described as a cast iron service head. Never seen one like this before!

Its of a large square shape with tails coming out the top. No sign of fuse. Disn't investigate if there was any way to open it.

My question is what the score with these can a board be changed or does the DNO need to upgrade it. Ze was 0.13ohms. It loos likle a tn-s

Anyone come across these?

as per my previous post CALL DNO as opening these can open a box of worms an may lead to more danger DNO should replace it Specialy if you take Teelxtrikals advice and "Smell something funny"

Another point on these is the earths Iv seen are usualy soldered ,braised on the lead cover of the cable and in some instances they have "Allround band" type stuff on them so its realy a DNO Issue specialy as its before the meter

Guys you are committing a criminal offence if you tamper with this kit, not only that it is damn dangerous.
Get the DNO to sort it, tell them it smells or is hot to the touch and you are afraid it is going to catch fire, that way they have to make it an emergency call out, you should have it changed out in a couple of hours FOC.
It's their kit, they can't charge you for maintaining it.
They can charge you in a criminal law way for tampering with it though.

Is this the same type on this pic? I came across this last week and low and behold the seals had already been broken (!) Inside were three 150 a fuses / Cant think of the type off the top off my head but they were the ones with the hooks on either end. Apparently they are from the 60's and the DNO hate changing them! Something to do with the fact they are hard work to do and the cables generally fall to bits when they break all the tar off them! Strangely enough, i hadnt realised intil i looked that this photo it actually has 3 x 150 written on it - D'Oh!

Last rewire was done in 1990's apparently. All seals are manweb tagged. Do you think the fuses may have been rectified then?

I would very much doubt it - seems like a call to the DNO will be the option to go for and get them to sort it for you! Really, they shouldnt charge for it as like someone said earlier, its well past its serviceable life and should be ditched! Its their equipment, make them change it!
