Hi guys.
so I’m running Ethernet cable and have a question.
the cable needs to pass through joists. There’s already 3 holes drilled (correct to building regs). I’d rather not drill another. Two of the holes have central heating pipes and the other is gas supply to the boiler.
there’s enough gap at the side of the gas pipe to pas the two Cat5e cables that I need but I’m unsure on if data cables need to be separate from gas as per mains cables. Anyone any thoughts?
Personally I can’t think of any reason why not but thought it best to check in case I’ve missed something. Checked BS7671 and can only find reference of data cables and mains cables.
TIA

technically, cables should be >25mm from gas pipes. drill some more holes, observing spacing , i/e 1.5 x hole diameter apart. how many cat5 cables are you planning on?

Agreed, not one of us will have seen network cables cable tied to the nearest pipe to save running that pesky trunking stuff!!

Just two out to my workshop. There are holes the other end of the joist but they have lighting and power running through them so keeping separate as much as possible.
