What if something was to rest against the MCBs and prevent them tripping? Surely the best solution is Murdoch has suggested.

I think you'll find that most (all?) MCBs will trip, even if the toggle is held in the 'closed' position.

There is no problem with the missing plastic cover over the MCBs.

What about ones made without covers then ?, and in any case there should be adequate space around switchgear (xiv) part d 611.3

Interesting point. I certainly find most people's CU cupboards are crammed full of stuff - not usually right in front of the MCBs, but I can well imagine things could end up falling there. I'm always advising people not to store flammable things, liquids, etc in there!
