still learning.

hi, I have just put right the wiring to a ceiling fan/light for my mate and it works exept when the fan is turned on it makes a noise until the light is turned on and then it is quiet, could this be cos of the wiring or just because it was a cheap fan.
it had a connector block in it labled L,N,Light, i put the switch live to L, neutral to N, and a wire from the L to the Light is this correct?

no just the one pull switch, there is a tiny slide switch for the fan which you need a chair the reach it was only a very cheap fan.

As Andtfm says, you can wire it both ways but you do not want to be running the fan motor through the dimmer.

As for the noise, it could be in the small print.
