:bulb2: Hello.
I have several ceiling fans (with lighting) in my house which were fitted in the mid-90s. Unfortunately, the plastic light bulb sockets had cracked and broke over the past few years (mainly due to the age of the material and the bulky energy-saving light bulbs), thus the broken sockets cannot now be used. Each ceiling fan has now only two (out of four) working light bulb sockets and one of the ceiling fans doesn’t work.
I went to the local independent DIY/builder’s merchant shop (where I originally purchased the ceiling fans) and they said these types of ceiling fans aren't available any more. Another local independent electrical shop doesn't sell the sockets. I searched online and found nothing. An electrician (who came to fix another problem) told me these sockets aren't available to purchase separately and that the entire ceiling fans would have to be changed with new ones. I can't change these ceiling fans as I'm very attached to these and because of the cost involved. Changing the fans will also ruin the décor of the rooms.
I have attached a few images of one of my three identical ceiling fans. Can someone tell me whether the light bulb socket part can be replaced? If so, where can I buy this part? Is it cheap and simple to replace? If not, how much would an electrician charge to fix these?
RSVP soon.
NB: I am not an electrician. I live in the UK.
