I'm repacing a free standing cooker with a ceramic hob and separate oven. I already have a control switch and 1 oulet box. Is it good practice to have 2 separate outlet boxes, separately spurred from the switch, or wired in series? Or can i connect the two appliances from the same outlet box? thanks in advance.

Thanks for the replies. The consumer unit has a dedicted 30a switch which has worked well for 20 years on a freestanding electric cooker. I have a spare 32a switch so could beef this up quite easily. Cheers.

sorry hit return too soon.

Are you sure the supply to this circuit is upto date as you are altering it ?

Sorry, sparks. Meant I can install a 32a switch in the consumer unit, replacing the 30a, if it improves the supply. Last thing I want to do is burn the house down. When I've finished, I'll get it checked. cheers.

It does sound like you have an old-ish installation.

Can you post up a pic of your CU?

In practice, there is nothing wrong wth running both from the same circuit, however, it does depend on load and diversity calculations, which TBH, if its a single under worktop oven and a four burner hob, should be ok.

However, as has been said, ratings of both appliances would be needed.

Yes that was the point i picked up on. If it is currently on a 30A supply then it normally refers to an older style board, as current supply boards are 32A. So this begs the question on other elements of your supply eg earthing being correct and supplimentary protection if required as these are all things associated with an older installations which your mention of 30A suggests.
It may be your installation is totally ok and sufficiant for the alteration but its just what i picked up on.
It may be an idea if you could possibly post a picture of you CU and the service head (intake) and we may be able to give your more information. sorry to be picky but you asked our advice and it is better too have the full picture.

hopefully, there's a pic with this

it looks like wylex and it was fitted in 1989.

cheers

Thanks for the pic Klunk, it would appear the supply should be satisfactory as it is on the wylex NB30 as long as the loadings of the hob and oven are ok on that size supply as others have asked. You should also get the earthing checked as installations pre 92 would have been to older size cables. Hope this helps
