Hi all.

My electrician is issuing me with certificates without a signature. The certs are completed via a computer then posted to me. In the signature fields are the names of the installer and QS printed but no signature as such, not evan a scanned one.

Is this acceptable?

It reduced the fake MOT certificates completely.

The advantage with MOT certs is that you need them for the TAX, and now the post office/DVLA/Police check for the MOT cert to be in place when you tax the car - also every camera you pass on the motorway is checking for MOT, TAX, Insurance so you cant get away with it anymore.

With the Electrical Certificates there is no one to check them, apart from the customer.

There is no policing on it, its all down to the customer to report suspicious certificates in the first place, but it is very easy to have a database as all Part P Certs have to be updated onto the database of NAPIT/NICEIC and with this new software there is a chance to have live updates.

The problem is policing it as noone knows that work has been carried out on a property in the first place.

The only way to police it is to check when the customer sells the house which could be 10-50 years down the line

I would imagine if it is on a certificate that is issued as part of a scheme such a NAPIT as Simon posted, or if commercial/industrial environment on certification that carries some form of company logo or covering letter, and that is emailed then it would easily stand up in a court of law.

My home and contents insurance is with a company called E-sure and everything was done over the internet, original application via website, then documents to us via email, and with no signature on any paper work.

I doubt very much if I had claimed and E-sure came back and said that because none of their documents had a signature attached, therefore they are void, I would not have had too many problems winning a court case.

I find this very hard to believe.
Whilst I accept that no-one would have physically signed any of the documents, I would expect there to be a signature (most likely the CEO's or Chairman's) printed on the Certificate.

You maybe right spin, in all honesty I never checked for a signature, and it's a bit hard for me do so over here now lol

I just checked all the emails sent to me as I saved in a folder on my email provider, concering terms and conditions, standing order mandate, acceptance letter and emails advising on start of policy and none of them have signatures on them, but the actual certificate we printed it off and deleted the mails in case we lost the email account for some reason.
