Still at 50 you shouldn’t have to worry to much about the asbestos

I certainly wouldn’t be starting the trade at 50, do you understand how physically demanding it is?
If the OP has been sitting at his desk all his working life, might just have a bit left in him. I on the other hand have been at it all my working life. nothing left. lol

hes well rested then?

A labourer last week working for me started at 8 a.m. finished at 6 p.m. by 2 p.m. he was shot. Walking around like a zombie could not take intructions in, he was dazed. He is always telling about the kung fu he does. I said well I should charge you for getting you fit then, this is real mans work not your silly nembo pembo. Boss of one job decided to work with me for the day, it was sad... couldn't even lift his leg high enough to get up a ladder! It was a bit of fun though in a perverse way. He got to see that producing output consistently through the day takes a lot of energy and fitness. I am saying you will get fit if you stick at it and that is gold on its own. Sounds like you may be doubting yourself a bit? Get stuck in give it your best shot.

Good grief, went back on tools 8 years ago at 48.......been behind a desk for 25 years..... as i work for myself i just cruise and dont make mistakes i have to go back a do again, saves alot of time.
I have also worked with a guy in his 60s, does industrial installs, he is as fit as a fiddle and works up mountains for fun. 50 is still prime time...lol

Hi Guys, Thanks for your input i never expected such a vast response. I appreciate your time.
I don't intend to be a "domestic installer" each and ever day.
My question was "how should get more experience and a portfolio for the ECB". Was volunteering my time a stupid idea.
Redundancy has forced my hand and I want to maximise the qualification I have going forward.

I’m currently moving jobs and putting together work for my NIC inspection on Sep 18. I’m just doing jobs for free, done a few free EICRs, a couple of free board changes and some new circuits in a commercial unit office.

Best way would be to get a year at least Experiance with another contractor in my opinion.

Desk jobs are for youngsters. If you get past 50 sitting down all day and spending 9 hours on a computer you are probably heading for the scrapheap fast. We aren't built for that.
