Hi,

I'm a hard working 32 year old from Bristol, I'm looking at getting into the electrical game as I'm fed up with my dead end fork lift driving job. I decided I wanted to become an electrician after I had an electrician to install an extra socket in my kitchen and I seen how easy it was ( you just match colours ) and how much was charged for it. Can't believe how easy it was I even added another one onto it a few weeks later I drilled through the back of socket into the bathroom for wall mounted tv ( I know how cool is that) and don't worry it's no where near the bath im not stupid. It's works like a charm.

Anyway I'd like to get into the electrical game, what is the quickest route( and cheapest) ? And I'd like to be on a bit more than I'm on now (ÂŁ10 ph) after seeing how much the electrical firms charge I also have a house and family to look after. Has anyone on here got room for a really hard working 32 year old?

Thomas forgive me for saying is this a wind up ? Seriously if I was you keep your job because ÂŁ10ph is a good rate for a steady job a lot of electricians do not have full time employment so their rate of pay would be a lot lower than yours.

The more I read your post the more me thinks it must be a wind up as you gun hoe of just match the colours up beggers belief but then again who am I to say I have only been in the electrical environment for the past 37 years serving 4 years to get my electrician card and a further 2 years for my approved O and also had to sit the 14th,15th16th&17th editions not including of course I&T and ISI&TEE
so me thinks you need to stick to what you actually know . Also if you do think that it is that easy then I have just wasted 37 years of my life. It would be better if you thought about this and then returned in April then we would know this post was a wind up

Don't bother with the training mate, sounds like your naturally blessed with all that's required to become an electrician…so good luck and just get out there with your new found skill… I'm sure the Niceic etc will take you on

Lol yeah people spend years training to match colours.

hahaha, Thomas, this is great. I needed a good laugh. Thanks pal.

I don't know what goes on now, but i can remember having to sit a company aptitude and pretty difficult math tests, before being accepted for my indentured apprenticeship. I soon found out why those math tests were needed too ...lol!! It's OK being a hard working guy, but unfortunately that alone won't cut it, not when it comes to becoming an electrician... lol!!

Im brand new here to all... Get Your TV inspected & tested by a 'qualified electrician ASAP you may have inadvertently put your self and others at risk.

if this isnt a wind up here's the wakeup call.

You will need circa 2-4k to get trained, with papers C&G etc, or g to university for 3 years for an engineering degree... then you will begin to learn on the job as a cable installer, Pay isn't great to start. But will improve over time.
Your obviously not colour blind let's hope?
Maths you will need to understand applied knowledge can be learnt.
It will take time and money; Lots!

And a fully qualified sparks may earn less than ÂŁ10 per hour - thats if they can get work.
