Change to regs??

Hi guys,

I have heard on the grapevine that the regs have changed regarding main protective bonding conductor to gas and water supplies.

I understand the regs are that the clamp should be within 600mm of the stopcock or shut off valve or at point of entry.

Somebody has told me that you can now put the clamp at any point on the pipe as long as it is visible. is this true?? can someone shed some light on this??

From memory i think it states "preferably within 60mm of the point of entry on the consumer side". Remember, the regs are a GUIDANCE document, not the law. It is more important that the bonding is installed and effective, than where it is connected. You will not get lynched if the bonding is not within 600mm, but you might if it isnt there at all.

Regs 17th Ed 544.1.2 states:

'The main equipotential bonding connection to any gas, water or other service shall be made as near as practicable to the point of entry of that service into the premises. Where there is an insulating section or insert at that point, or there is a meter, the connection shall be made to the consumer's hard metal piework and before any branch pipework. Where practicable the connection shall be made within 600 mm of the meter outlet union or at the point of entry to the building if the meter is external.'

Memories can be fallible things and suppositions will not stand in a court of law ... !
