Evening Too You All, Dose Anyone Know The Rules About Chasing Cables Into Walls In Domestic Installations. Do You Have To Chase Into The Brick Or Not If Plaster Can Skim Over Them

No, you dont have to chase into the brick, the only thing that really governs you is WHERE the cables are, ie safe zones etc (16th anyway) then for 17th its also 5cm depth etc etc, as Wayne says
 
17th Edition - cables buried under 50mm deep are required to be RCD protected unless they are - incorporated in an earth metallic covering - earthed conduit - earthed trunking

RCD is the only cost effective way to go

So Shakey - are we saying that as per 17th ALL chases have to be 50mm deep?

c'mon Cirrus, you know thats not what I am saying :p

- I am merely paraphrasing the "buried cables less than 5cm deep rule";)

there is no minimum depth for cables to be chased, but under the 17th the rules change at 5cm deep. There are MAXIMUM depths according to the depth of the brick/block, which comes under the building regs
