fryer is tripping RCBO. continuity 18.9 ohms, IR @500V > 999 Meg. it's a basic fryer, switch, stat and element. no visible wiring faults. got to assume it's element breakdown as it warms up. oh, and tried it on a different circuit just in case the RCBO was to blame. still tripping after about 5 secs.

I've just dropped her off at bingo

wondered how long irt would take for the thread to be trashed. surprised it took so long. ignoring geordie's comments. he can't resist having a pop at scousers, just because we got a better football team. :54:

Drop the elephant off and power up to ensure no issues with stat... but yes does sound like a element fault that shorts/leaks down as the metal expands with heat hence its not detectable before hand.... if its leakage tripping the rcbo then stat should be ok but if a short then i'd order a stat as well they are prone to damage during a S/C ... stick it on a mcb to see if leakage was the cause.
i could understand if it were in trunking....

I remember getting called out to a problem with a chip fryer many years ago which was tripping the supply intermittently. After doing some checks I powered it up and it stayed on long enough to find a pinhole in the element with the insulating powder leaking out into the oil. I don't know if it flavoured the chips but the oil went very cloudy and didn't look that good for frying chips and nobody in the kitchen noticed

Simple solution, remove connections to element, wire in your kettle or maybe even two kettles direct to element feed terminals, fill kettle(s) with water and wait 5 seconds, if no trip and kettles boil, replace element. If not replace fryer. Oh and use hot water for cuppa.

Sorry for trashing your thread Tel but I've gotta ask.....red or blue?

red, of course. but still happyt when the blues thrash one of them london poof clubs.
