Discuss Class change on a Gent 4 zone fire alarm panel in the Security Alarms, Door Entry and CCTV (Public) area at ElectriciansForums.net

why not fit a relay at the fire alarm panel end to do the switching of the C1 + C2 contacts and then use the 70m cable run to switch on the relay ??

thinking about this more...

you are extending contacts C1 and C2 to a switch 70 metres away that will short those contacts to set off the alarm....

surely that length of run is more than 70 metres as the current has to run down core 1 of the SWA to the switch at the end and then back down core 2 to the panel to complete the circuit ??

so surely your length is now double ?? so more like 140 metres ??

i might be totally wrong here lol

If it was pulsing that was needed, i was nearly going to suggest ( i have now) a indicator relay (like one that's used in a car, truck etc), powered/latched by the timer then it pulses to the c1 + c2 on the panel, then there would be issues with that complying to standards i think...

The length of pulse is for the duration of the bells sounding, in schools say you wish to have a 4 secound bell for class change, then using a normal digi timer will only switch at 1 minute intervals, so a normal timer will give you a 1 minute bell ring. Using pulse timer you can set out contacts for 1 sec interval...so setting for 4 seconds gives the required bell duration.

Ahh, i see. Its good to learn more, im only starting out
