Hi all,

Got a quote to do with red clay tiles. Not much of those round this way, just wondering what the best method of fixing is? Hanger bolts might do it but lots of drilling i imagine...

Any suggestions welcome...

I use the plain tile roof hooks and dress some lead in. They are fairly easy to remove and put back, and not to much work putting the fixings on. The pain is often just working on the roof itself, you may need plenty of spares! The newer ones are ok but some of the older ones are as sturdy as digestive biscuits. This, together with the fact that they can be very slippery and are often on a steeper pitch means it can take longer than nice easy concrtetes.

Where the roof hook sits onto the tile after you have put everything back together is vulnerable if the hook flexes- if you rest on the rail whilst mounting the modules for example, the tile underneath will often crack. I replace this one with some lead with edges creased over to prevent water getting over the sides.

We would generally recommend our Variosole Aluminium Roof Hooks for this.

If you would like some details or prices please let me know.

Thanks

Was going to reply to this, but I might as well copy and paste everything northernsun has said - spot on. Exactly what we do and with exactly the same experiences!
