Hi,

I was meant to be having a 600mm trench dug all the way down the garden but the customer doesn't want to wreck his new lawn now, I did say put it in before y lay the lawn but he wouldn't listen.

anway, to cut a long storey short, he said can I cleat it to the bottom of the fence.

my ugliest thoughts are no, not really, you shouldn't really fix to non or semi permed structures like that really.

whats your thoughts? I suppose if it's cleated on every post, it's going to be fairly well fixes, it's going to be covered in bark chipping a then at the bottom.

Re: Clearing to concrete posts?

When installing cu, sockets and switches in a pre-fab concrete garage I stick a bit of ply wood to the wall using no-nails and fix to that. Outside and under bark chip???? erm not too sure the wood would last that long? Tanalised timber might be an option?

Re: Clearing to concrete posts?

I just dont trust no nails, its rubbish, I certainly wouldnt stick anything together with it or rely on it for a permanent fix.

Whoops, good point. I use Pink Grip but White (better looking finish if any is showing).

Think someone has already said, put a length of pipe down run and put your SWA in that then bury it as the customer wants. Better than sticking bits of wood to an external fence, internal ok.

Re: Clearing to concrete posts?

I'd be up front and honest with the fella. I'd be saying that I told him about getting a trench dug before the lawn goes down and that this is still the case. I'd tell him that he won't have any problem finding some cheap monkey who'll lash his new cable up on his fence but that cheap monkey isn't me. I'd tell him that I'd be more than able to get a trench in without damaging his lawn as I'd lay tarp for the spoil and hire a small compactor.

I'd tell him that if he wants a proper job doing, the trench is the only way. If not, find some other mug.

Re: Clearing to concrete posts?

or.....Speak to his neighbour, get permission to bury cable on his side, give him a means of isolation, and tell him to enjoy his free garden illumination...

Tell the customer his lawn is mint, and you have buried so deep,it wouldn't give a cat a beep...

If properties on differing phases, affix suitable stickers, invoice, and leave...:willy_nilly:

Re: Clearing to concrete posts?

Its armour cable fix it in front of the fence base just above the gravel secure it in place with some U pins , yes you will see it , but did neatly low level once the shrubs establish you will hardly notice it

Hi Paul I too like many others will have used this method, however might I punt the following

Timber Bond PU Adhesive - Wood Finishes: Osmo, Liberon and more inc Varnishes and Wood Stains! - agwoodcare.co.uk

been using it for well over a decade now. Its unbelieveable. Completely different to no more nails/ the grip range, etc, its the 'stickiest' stuff Ive ever come across, takes a few days to get it off your hands if you get it on them.

want to stick a brick on the ceiling? This will do it!

not sure what its based on but it appears to be some sort of variation to boat builing glue. Honestly if you try it youll never buy any other stuff. I've got about 20 tubes in the storeroom

If/when I every need to stick a bit of wood externally, that will be used, thanks for the heads up. In fact I've got a little job at home which this will be perfect for, cheers

Re: Clearing to concrete posts?

If anyone remembers that post I started about the fixings in the tanked basement . I used CT1 adhesive and stuck the trunking and patresses on the walls and it worked really well , you would have to break the fittings to get them off , just needs 3 to 4 hours to set ...
