To test a commercial or industrial property do you have to have 2391 + NICEIC Approved.. I have the NIC Domestic Installer but am thinking of venturing more further afield to industrial and commerical but dont have 2391

Is the only way to test these properly to get 2391 and NICEIC Approved

Kind Regards
Dave

I believe to test commercial properties you need to be competent as defined by BS 7671 and probably have appropriate indemnity insurance. For industrial I would imagine they would expect a JIB gold card and sufficient proven experience. I could well be wrong though :)

Most of my work is C&I, you have to be competent. Its hard to imagine having done domestic and not having 2391 you would be OK. Its very very different and you need to have your wits about you, insurance is a must. industrial wise, never been asked for a JIB card and dont have one anyway, they too need insurance and you really really do need a level of experience to even contemplate it.
I have yet to be given a free rein on a large commercial or industrial site so you are working around a live site. Isolate the wrong load and bad things happen and dont expect any board to be gospel wrt correct cct identification.
Good Luck

Id say get some periodic inspection experience by starting with smaller domestic installs.
Then think about doing the 2391.
Takes time to get to grips with larger commercial testing.
But you dont need either 2391 or NIC to carry out EICR's , but you do need practice to do commercial / industrial.

My apprenticeship was 100% commercial and industrial done alot and seen alot,

I just wondered what the way to test it would be so i test it, send cert and have to declare to building control then im guessing?

No Axel, no LABC/part p involvement in commercial or industrial mate
The electrickery used in these environments is, by implication, obviously less dangerous than that used in domestic situations:)

Ahh wikid so basically i can go into a commerical or industrial do the work - test and fill out a EICR hand that to the customer.. Job done?

If you're competent then yes, it's not just a question of bowling up to a building and saying to the maintenance manager "Hey, I can do that, giz a job" though

You only issue an EICR when you have carried our an inspection and test of the Electrical Installation's Condition and are Reporting on it. If you are carrying out installation work you issue either an Electrical Installation Certificate or a Minor Works Certificate

Just took a look at some of your previous posts Axel, are you absolutely sure you're able to carry out these works?
I'm not so sure mate and if you do get into it you'd better make sure you know your stuff because there's a world of heartache waiting for you in some commercial/industrial situations, don't believe all you read on a circuit list. Turn off the wrong circuit and you have a major problem

From what i'm reading here, your all talking about what you would basically find in a domestic situation as far as testing is concerned. That's fine if that's all your basically getting involved in, on a commercial or industrial installation.

But i'm afraid on most of the bigger commercial and industrial installations your C&G 2391 will be of little use to you, your then in the realms of primary/secondary injection test kits, along with a good few other bits of test kit that few here (unless working or has worked in the industrial sector) would have even seen or heard of, let alone being competent in there use.
