Company names etc

For gods sake don't use your initials, but be more inventive. Working in the wholesale trade, so many have initials the same etc. it's a pain in the **** to find/book to the correct acct.

I was sort of resigned to the fact I would have to use my initials, after checking companies house this doesn't fit in with my long term business goal as the name has already been taken, so if anybody has any other suggestions feel free to speak up ha

some have advised to go with a name beginning with 'A'', this is a very old school marketing tactic from the days of the yellow pages being the first port of call for someone to find a tradesman, but in this day and age I think its more important you get a website made and register it with the search engines like google so for example when someone types in 'electrician in leeds', you are one of the first to appear on the search engine.

Also I've found a great website 'thesignbuilder.co.uk (i think, try .com if it doesnt work), this allows you to design your own van signwriting plus all other types of marketing tools, you can pick what van you have and design to suit, prices are very good too.

People assume my surname is actually sparks, which it isn't. And I get jokes on site about my work causing sparks!!

I know how that one! And when I ask for the cheque to be made out to 'Billy The Sparks' the client normally has a little giggle!! It took me a couple of months to think up my name, I was going to use my surname in 'Yendell Electrical' and even 'William Yendell Electrical Services' but everyone on site used to call me Bill / Billy so it came to mind that 'Billy The Sparks' was the winner. My name plus what I do. Simple. Do you have any nicknames (that aren't rude) that you could incorporate into a trade name?
