This link that I seem to be getting refered to is worrying to me. I have not got the NVQ 3. I have however been in the trade 6 years have 2330 parts 1 & 2, 17th and the 2391

IET Forums - New qualification for qualifying supervisors.

If this is true, has there been an actual confirmation letter from the IET itself? I mean its been nearly 5 months since that post on the IET website. But no confirmation directly from them? I can't find it anywhere. OP states he had an e-mail from Voltimum regarding this...
Is anyone more up to date on this yet?

Will ring the schemes tommorrow and see what is going on.

This page and the PDF document (right of the screen) on the IET Website are still the same.....

Electrotechnical Assessment Specification - EAS - IET Electrical

What a bummer another £700 to do the NVQ3 if this is correct. i'm just not 100% conviced by the post...has anybody got the official release of the statements?

I've been trying to find the article I read on the "new" requirements but to no avail.

From what I remember... some please correct me if I'm wrong.
If your already a QS then you don't have to get any further quals For those that are not currently QS' and do not have an NVQ Level 3 (either 2356 or the new 2357) there will be a additional course you will be able to take.

I'm still not 100% conviced by that IQ. Who is Edmunson Electrical? Has that contractor just put the quotes up from a forum???

What is a level 3 equivalent?

Thinks a call to the NICEIC is needed tommorow.

Theres going to be alot of guys out of work by the sounds of it and schemes are going to lose alot of members.

Edmunson electrical (eddies) is a national wholesaler like Citys or Newys

Do I assume that your calling the NICEIC because your already a QS??? If so no need to worry

No, I'm with the Pit but NICEIC are the main governers so il check with them aswell.

Why have the IET not issued a formal statement?

When you say you're not convinced, do you mean by the source of the article or the sentiments of the agreement?

Remember that this is not retrospective and anyone currently listed as a QS can remain so without any further qualifications.

To me, it just shows poor judgement from the original committee for allowing scheme membership with such a low minimum entry requirement.

You might be forgiven for thinking it was a way of addressing the shortage of electricians at the time of the original inception of the schemes (surely not....)

I had my niceic yearly inspection the other week and asked about this subject. He just looked at me with blank eyes and said he hasn't got a clue what I'm talking about. So still none the wiser, sorry.

do you think the Nic or other would just spring this on you at the next inspection without notice? no is the answer, so if they have not written to me ( as they have not) then i wont be worrying

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET - The Institution of Engineering and Technology - The IET) recently made an important announcement regarding training standards. In order to raise the bar in maintaining safe practice for anyone working in the UK electrical industry, all Qualified Supervisors will - from July 2011 - need to hold higher qualifications. An industry wide agreement means that a Level 3 qualification, or equivalent, will become the minimum technical requirement for all new applications for the position of Qualified Supervisor

2360 is level 3

ok , so why have the NICEIC not iniformed me or anyone else, ?
if needed i will do it but i can see the membership dropping and with that revenue, so i dont see it happening, right now all you need is 2382 for god sake so i cant see it changing too dramaticaly too quickly

This is what I inteperated it as aswell. It says a level 3 qualification in the opening paragraph or equivalent....

So what are these level 3 qualifications and what are the equivalents???

It does go on to say about the new NVQ3 is needed. But why not just say you must have the nvq3 instead of saying a level 3 or equivalent. They need to come out and sort this

Why will the membership drop when the requirement is NOT retrospective?

if the 2357 is needed for new people, and they have 2360 then would they need to do the whole course?
the 2357 is as i understand it is made from the 2360/2330 and am2 etc with site visits

I spoke to napit about this last week and they didn't seem to think it will happen on the date mentioned.

Also as far as they are concerned 236 is level 3 and if you hold 236 parts 1 & 2 you will not be required to do any more.

I had a link to this a few months back. I can't locate it at the moment. It was a PDF document via the ECS website and has now been removed. It stated that the domestic electrician would become a new ECS card grading and that NVQ level 3 qualifications would be required. I will attempt to dig out the link.
