Looking at getting a set of cone step drill bits buts it's a mindfield. So many seem really cheap but promise the world.

All seem to be Chinese produced and labelled as titanium, is there a particular brand, variety that I should be looking at? I always prefer to buy quality for longevity.

Good cone cutters are helluva expensive and I much prefer the proper hole saws.

Get a quality brand,if choosing a cone type cutter, and save it's life,by changing down speeds,as you step up the size increments.
You can re-sharpen them,but it takes a bit of micro-carbide trickery :)

I will get a decent hole saw set (probably the armeg sheet metal ones) however if I need to step up or a size that's not in the armeg set I'll need a cone drill

I always get mine from Aldi, for enlarging holes they do the job.
They are also cheap enough to not worry if they blunt a bit.
If the pilot is blunt I’ll pilot with another drill bit and enlarge with the hole cutter. It may waste 45 seconds of my day but I make that up by not chewing my food!
