hi all

im building a garden shed andd want to put power to it. I want to do it myself and will be including it in my building notice for the labc to check.

I will be using 6mm 3-core swa which will be about 50m from the consumer unit, but I have some 6mm t&e able already from the consumer unit (about 15m).

how can i connect the swa to the t&e?

Where exactly will the joint be, and will it be accessible afterwards???

What sort of loading will you have at the shed??? as volt drop springs to mind with a run of that length.

joint will be in the new building loft space, so accessible

Loading will be 2 fluorescent tubes, and a power socket for possible a drill

I would suggest a 4x4x2 steel adaptable box with the correct swa gland for the swa and a nylon compression gland for the T&E.

Use crimps or wago's to connect the individual cores.

Also a flylead to the earth tag is reccomended.

ok that all makes sense

what do i do with the earth from the steel armour?

also at the shed end, I guess I can put t he swa straight into a plastic cu?

thanks

I would use earth sleeve on all swa armourings, I think there will be about 50, then connect each amouring into a big connector block, similar to a henley block would do. Then wrap the block with green and yellow tape. The line conductors can be twist and tape...make sure brown tape is used on the live conductor, and blue on the neutral conductor. If underground its best to enclose the connections in a plastic bag (tesco or sainsburies) as these bags have better insulation properties.
Stake connection above ground with, 'Underground electrical connection below' . 'Do not water'
