Hi

I'm replacing my CU at home for my elecsa assessment. There isn't currently a RCD on my board so I will be installing a split load CU with a RCD for the circuits that supply my bathroom. This is probably a silly question but the connecting wire from the main switch to the RCD shares the same terminal slot as the busbar on the main switch???

Sounds like you have a "high integrity" CU there if there is busbar terminated in the main switch, either that or it's a "16th ed" split configuration.

How many RCD's are in the CU???

I'm not getting something here! Shouldn't the busbar run from the live connection on the main switch to feed the individual circuits on the board? Maybe I'm not explaining myself very well. I just wasn't too sure on how to connect the main switch and RCD?

That is the way that the split cu is set up so isolation of the main switch isolates the entire installation.

May i ask why you are not changing to a 17th edition cu?

Thats a split load board with unprotected circuits fed by the main switch and Rcd fed by main switch which serves the protected circuits
What is it you want to alter ( lighting circuit that contains the bathroom?)

I've read the questions again
That split load board is the new unit installed , you are questioning its construction

Would the picture above not comply to 17th edition? This is the design and layout I was planning to install. My current board is quite dated in that it has no protective devices other than CB's.

To comply with 17th 99% of circuits in a domestic installation will require RCD protection. Normall a cu like this dual RCD board is used. Or a cu like the one in your picture with RCBO's on the non RCD side.
