evening everyone been to look at a fire in consumer unit today. tn-c-s supply property has economy seven as well.
fire was behind main switch were they were joined then to a henley and then poorly installed isolators to another set of consumer units at the back of the house which was extended about 5 years ago the feed to these is 10mm twin and earth from the henley blocks. no certificates it looks as the economy 7 board was extened the same way but you cant remove the cover of this as the kitchen unit is built across this.
this is the best bit after some conversation with the owner he is a local building inspector.
I am looking at fitting new tails to external meter box threw cavity in trunking and new board .repair ring and lighting cable as insulation test is 0.001 found to were cables damaged.
any thoughts greatly appreciated

If you phrase any questions as such, you'll receive more responses.

thanks for the reply have I been abit full on ofwhat I am asking
No, I just can't spot any direct questions. Maybe if you ask a specific question about one or two aspects of the job which you're not sure about I'm sure you'll get plenty of help.

As it stands there's just a description of a scenario and an overview of what you intend to do.
Folks on here are friendly and helpful and if you ask a direct question, you'll get some answers.

all the best

So what was the cause of the fire? Loose connection?

The first thing I'd be doing is a full periodic inspection and test, if you have 'poorly installed isolators' (whatever that means) then you probably have other 'poorly installed' accessories and wiring that you need to bring to the clients attention to avoid a repeat scenario a few months down the line with your name recorded as the last to be working on the installation!

yes it was a bad connection on the meter tail join behind main switch.thanks forthe reply I will speak to them about a periodic asyou say it was me there last. Also english is not my best subject and i will try and not write a report but ask a question. many thanks.

as stated a full test and inspect is required, no point repairing the damaged part you can see without checking for further problems upline, may turn out to be simple or then again you could be looking at a rewire, test results will reveal all.

I will be interested to hear what you find, I think you may uncover one or two issues.
Good luck all the same.

well MR mike.
found a few things no rcds, no bonding,6mm earth cable,no supplementary bonding, crossed ring circuits, extractor fan buried in bathroom ceiling and no earths on several lights several circuits that are unkwown, immersion on32a mcb and bathroom heater on 32a mcb 2.5 twin and earth and afew other things just to be going on with .Ithink they have been lucky to still have a house .

They probably won't when they get your rectifications invoice!

Seriously though, this is one of the reasons that we haven't got tighter legislation, even in a 'death trap' installation, the chances of shock or fatality are still very small.

Well done, looks like you have a bit to go at there.
