I am looking for some help on an install I am doing and I cant' "see the wood for the trees!"

I am using a contactum split load unit but I want to put all the MCBs on the RCD.
I think the problem I am having is to do with the way I have connected the neutrals
between the isolator/RCD/and neutral bars.

I have connected the neutral out going terminal of the isolator to the main neutral bar.
I have connected the both the incoming and outgoing neutrals on the RCD to the same neutral bar as the isolator. I have connected all the circuits neutrals to the same bar as the RCD and isolator.
I have a situation where the rcd is not tripping when I pust its test button the rcd is not tripping when I do an RCD teat with my Fluke meter. Also any load on any of the circuits is tripping the mcb.???

I have been going round in circles trying to work out what I have got wired incorrectly so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

you should be using a split board with 2 RCDs, the links from Main switch to RCDs are normally in place by manufacturer. as you describe your set up. the load side of the main switch L&N should go directly to the top side of RCD. The load side of the RCD is L to busbar, N to Neutral block

As stated you are not fitting the correct board, I would strongly suggest you employ the services of an electrician.

Do as Amp David says. All circuits on 1 RCD is highly unsatisfactory. However it would seem that you don't really know what your doing so I would strongly suggest that you get a professional in as cbw says.

A previous post you made

Thanks for your comment and I guess when you are quite new to the job like I am then I am learning the stuff they don't teach you at college as I go along (Like this rcd problem). I appreciate everyone's help and I have certainly learned alot from the comments received from the experienced members. Thanks again

You are finding out that college training does not fully prepare students for real world work experiences

You seem to need to study more about distribution from a consumer unit, and the use of Rcds, and why they are wired, as they are, in the different types of consumer units

The first comment I would make is "why are you using a split board" if your intention is to have all circuits on the rcd side,a standard board with an rcd main switch will do the job without re juggling connections

If its for a new installation in a property that requires discrimination as per the 17th,then Rcbos with the board you have or get a twin rcd board as advised by others
What is the board feeding and where is the supply?

I will be a little harsh, but perhaps you could be advised to aquaint yourself more with balaced loads in a consumer unit
Taking on work that may be extending your level of experience, may lead to further problems for the sake of a little more info before commencing the work

you have said you connected the incomming and out going neutrals to the neutral bar ,if this is the case the RCD will trip read what has been said use the split board but the unprotected way use RCBO's ,having said that a Volex dual RCD 10 way dist board at screwfix with 10 MCB's £59.99 cheaper than filling the board up with RCBO's

DEs has made an exellant comment to

what about notification? you could be prosecuted for contravening part p of the building regulations, if you do not notify the council, by either being a member of an appropriate scheme, or paying the council to come and test your work.

Be carefull where the factory have connected up. Had a square D cu the other day with one of the neutrals in wrong side of the RCD caused one of my lads a good while of headscratching! Must have been a friday afternoon board!!
