Hi peeps im about to do a periodic for a client and i noticed the consumer unit was mounted on its side. Its a wylex 16th board. Any problems with this? If so what code would you give?

also seen this before due to where its positioned, as said above that would be fitted not to manufacturers instructions. would like to know if there is a prob with this too...

Not fitted to manufacturers instructions.
not seen one yet with " this side up " on it. it's a point, though. but in industrial boards, 3 phase with single phase MCBs as well) the MCBs are mounted horizontally, so i can't see a problem. sometimes lack of space when fitting a new CU means you have no option but to fit sideways, any other thoughts on this one lads/lasses?

Yer, i dont have Wylex instructions in hand to see if it mentions anything about the way its mounted?
i've heard of mounting sheep in south wales, but never a wylex

I think 'manufacturer's instructions' is the key here, and also the appropriate reg.
If there's absolutely no other way of doing it I can't see the problem, but in my book you shouldn't start going around mounting consumer units on their sides just because there's no specific reg prohibiting it.
Others seem to disagree...
