Hi all. Is it now regulations to fit a cu with every circuit protected by an RCD? or can you still install split laods?

there are 2 main reasons to rcd protect circuits
1 cables burried in walls at depth less than 50mm
2 socket circuits rated at 20a or above

so a lighting circ or radial power to fixed appliance in surface pipe wouldnf need rcds

You have to comply with current regs regarding the existing install if fitting a new board so loosely speaking yes to rcd protection on all circuits dependant to exceptions as listed ie depth of cables in to walls type of mechanical protection ect ect. Also a split board could still be used with unprotected ways fitted with rcbo's for better discrimination. Its not a straight yes or no answer.

Fire detection circuits must be supplied independently of other circuits and not protected by an Rcd protecting multiple circuits. 560.7.1 so if any smoke alarms in the main rcd would be no use too bald sparkies correct rcbo on seperate circuits what be better allthough alot more cost.

Your right Lee, good example of why its not a straight yes/ no answer to the question, lots of other factors to be considered, and of course multiple options.Dependant on circuit types and how they need to comply with current regs.;)
