Pj you need to realise what you have is three single phase circuits (over 3 phases) so look at it from that viewpoint and don't let the 3phase thing throw you.
Switch you heaters off at their individual points do your tests on swa and if all ok then replace your fuses and bring your contactor in, see if fault occurs.

Thanks guys. Jim and VaughanT, very useful stuff. I've hardly touched a contactor since college (and I think I was away that day as well), so it's the mystery bit of the puzzle for me. I'm due out there again next week and will take all this on board to try. At least the weather's been warming up and if granny comes to stay again she won't freeze without the heating ....

Good luck mate,you'll be fine.
it'll be something simple I'm sure,a lot of folk get scared of contractors/relays etc as they don't deal with them everyday but its only really a glorified switch!!!

Go to the sub forum you want to post in, in the top right hand of the screen there's a button marked "Post new thread" or something very similar. Click on it and it'll take you to a place where you can fill the title in and everything you want to ask/slag off/ moan about/claim etc. At the bottom of the page after you've said all you want to say there's another button marked "Post new thread" or something very similar, click that and you've started your first thread.

and try not to upset tony. he's a grumpy bugger at the best of times. :54::mad2::behead::21:

PJ, if you have tested all the cct and there is no problems then I would suggest breaking the cct down into sections from the fuses that keep blowing.
Isolate each part of the cct and turn them back on 1 by 1.
When your fuses pop again you know which part of the cct the problem lies in.
But I would agree with the others that if its poping all 3 fuses then the chances are its part of the sub main probably something to do with the underground armoured to it.
Either damaged or problems with water etc.
