Hi,

Looking at a job at the moment quite a lot of work, one part is to supply benches with power, the benches will be in the middle of the warehouse as in the picture attached they are used for light assembly works so each bank of 6 benches pushed together will have 32A supply.

I need to obviously take the power up high with the lighting and maybe a conduit drop straight down there the benches,
so small metal trunking across the lighting trunking with single drops, has anyone got any clever ideas I'm not thinking of?

Use tray on the ceiling, easier to lay the cables in than to pull them. I agree you use trunking or conduit down to the benches.

32amp isolator outlet fastened to the lighting trunking flexi-hose down to power pole with take-up loop as the lighting is suspended.
The into 32amp rcd trip on pole for local means of reset... ensure cable is sized for run and install methods.

Hire a scissor lift of 2 and jobs simples ...time saved using existing trunking and scissor lift will balance paying out for power poles which look more professional.

On the ceiling ... !!! thats pretty high up and can double the length of the circuits.. whats wrong with the trunking ... hire lift all cables in lighting trunking within the day! Simples... No heavy costings for cable tray thats not needed.

Great idea Darkwood, although the flex hose would need to be supported somehow?

I will have a scissor lift as the job in the other part of the warehouse requires it anyway.

Would you install just a 32A rotary isolator to the trunking?

i was going to install 32A RCBO's at the DB anyway, as each set of benches will be on there own radial circuit at 32A so maybe a 32A isolator on the trending and a 32A isolator at the bench.

From experience rcd protection local then bench user can reset without running around like an headless chicken looking for floor manager... rotary isolator on trunking fine - no need to anchor the lighting trunking as long as the flex or flexi-conduit as a sufficient take up loop to allow for the natural movement of the trunking.

Flex or flexiconduit has a deliberate unsupported loop then into top of power pole ... it will look neat and professional it wont be a massive jump from the power pole to the lighting trunking if you get the right height one - a 1m drop is normal... pics up after please!

PS you need to anchor the power poles to the corner of the bench - ensure they fix the benches down to the floor and its possible you may need to add additional support under the bench or individual support like strut and foot anchor plate... depends on your bench set-ups

Well the benches already have the sockets on them, they are being moved in from a previous warehouse that the company is transferring from so i haven't see them yet, so i shouldn't need power poles, meaning the drop from the trunking to the bench could be 3M+!

This is my only concern supporting the FLexi-con/ conduit from the lighting trunking down to the bench and it looking neat!

Pictures will come on after!

Hi are you allowed to drill the floor if so, maybe consider double unistrut from the bottom of the roof truss to the floor ,this may sound a bit over the top , but when you consider the cable run and the size of the conduct and amount of circuits to install , double unistrut would allow easy fitment of conduit/trunking or tray to be either side and a handy location for your means of isolation/protection it also allows for future expansion allowing you to perhaps remove ie 75mm tray and replace with 100mm. this may be the way to go allowing swa to be used from the trunking above the db tray up the wall all the way to the point of use bingo , plus you get to keep all that lovely space inside the existing trunking. hope this helps just a thought.

3m length unistrut 41''/41'' anchored to floor and bench ... leaves about 1m gap at top ideal for take-up loop ...

You have the trunking already in - use it
Strut up - if you have issues with fixing then you may have to position the drops to meet the perlings and fasten them at base and top but if benches are fixed and have a good fixing point they will be fine to anchor the strut - 41"/21" strut is lighter and maybe better if the benches are not as sturdy.

I can't see any point in running loads of tray at the epense of time and materials when we have a trunking system throughout.

PS good point from amptramp ensure you can drill the floor, make sure its not pre -stressed bar/concrete setup.
