Converting American 120v to British 230v

Hi guys,

Went to a american customers house today where she wanted all her american table lamps put on a 230v 3 pin plug top, rather than use her plug transformers.

I told her that she would need to change the lamp holders and wiring to accommodate the new voltage, which wouldn't be easy. And that she would be better of carrying on using the adaptors or just replace the table lamps with british 230v ones.

Would like to know your thoughts???

The cable is rated @ 240v
Lamp holders rated '240v ( source NEC - USA )

am i right in saying that the american lamps wouldnt be earthed?

the lamp would'nt the fitting MAY require a cpc for use over here

Tell her to go to Wilkinsons and buy 230v table lamps, it'll probably work out cheaper for her

that's what i advised. i'm not actually going back, was just curious for future

Just change the plug top and lamp!! Table lamps etc that don't contain a CPC will be equivalent to our Double insulated/class 2, if manufactured within the last 20 years in the States... The cord and lamp holders and switches, will more than handle our 240V system....
