Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had any advice or put me right, im to wire a hob that's 6 kw and Elec oven 4.25 kw,would I be right in saying that a 45 amp breaker, with a 10mm cable suppling both hob and oven via Dual appliance out let plate. Would this be adequate, any help guys would be appreciated

Thanks Lenny, mate do you reckon you would get away with 40 amp breaker?

This would be where you put your designers hat on and, using diversity arrive at the correct figure.;)

Apart from xmas day, how often will all parts of the cooker be used at the same time, bearing in mind that the grill cant be used at the same time as the oven anyway........

Your set up would work quite happily on a 6mm cable and a 32A breaker. In fact any combination of cooking appliances (ie free standing cooker, oven and hob) upto 15KW will. You have a combined un-diversified load of 10.25KW!! Still think you need a 10mm cable sitting on a 45A breaker??

I'd wager that your set up would run quite happily on a 20A breaker. in fact your load works out at 19.8A after diversity. Put it on a standard cooker circuit, 32A/6mm which will give you headroom in the future for a more powerful hob or double oven.

Guys the Elec hob and elec oven are both separate appliances, i just think it would be good practice to use 10mm, also these appliances are to be hard wired.

If you are so desperate to waste your money then by all means throw in the 10mm cable. Guess your still thinking a 45A breaker too, ...well yes, it will protect the cable!!!

The reason I'm thinking 10 mm is the fact that the kit fitter who I have never met has orderd this oven, I have not seen oven yet, he advised me of kw ratings and amps per appliance,

Have you looked at the price of 10mm over 6mm these days?

10mm is way ott and 6mm will never even break sweat. Waste your money by all means, but if this is for a paying customer make sure they understand what they're paying for.
