Hello all.

My cooker hood fan has stopped working and its not something I attempt to fix with customers but I thought Id have a look at my own.

The lights work. It has 240v into the terminal block. 240v from switches back to the terminal block. Then the 3 lives (3 varying speeds) disappear into the motor, 2 others come back from the motor and go into a capacitor. So Im guessing the problem is with the motor or capacitor. Which us most likely? How do I test these?

Cheers. :)

Ha ha - Probably not the best answer but it worked. I got called out to a customer with a fan not working but lamps etc were. I used a small screwdriver to give the fins of the fan a nudge and tried again and it spun and they never had a problem again.

If its a crap motor, its likely that grease will get in and cause issues, sticking etc. It may only come to light if the fan has not been run for a period of time and the gloop has set hard causing the fan to stick.

Anyway, as I said, not a technical answer but sometimes, the hammer is the best tool in your toolbox

They were working when I left, that's all I'll say  .
Had one where one of the internal conductors had popped out of the terminal, had to use a screwdriver and all.
