Hi hope everyone had a great christmas, i am installing a belling b160 mf cooker its a electric cooker and gas hob, its rated 2.5kw. The manual says it needs fusing at 13 amp, this is where im stuck. I am running a 6mm cable from the board with a 32 amp breaker then where do i go to a cooker connection unit and on the out going connect a spur, please help. thank you for taking the time to read this.

I would....

32a RCBO, or MCB if CU has rcd protection already
6mm2 T&E to DP Isolator (red cooker switch)
From DP isolator, 6mm2 to double socket in adjacent cupboard to oven
Flex from oven to 13a plug and plug in socket
Flex from gas hob ignitor to plug top and plug in

This way, you can upgrade in future for a double oven that requires a 32a supply with minimal wiring alterations.

With all respect English54
I disagree the mcb should be designed to suit the circuit just because u use a larger size cable than required does not require the max size protection say u had some 16mm swa and u used it say for a garage supply u wouldn't fuse it at 63a for a light and socket .if later someone decides to up the load cause the cable will take it the smaller fuse would trip regsrdless

engineer54 is correct. you protect the cable with the MCB/fuse. at the load end if said cable, you fit lower rated protective device/s according to the size of cable fed from them.

bad example i understand about discrimination etc
what im getting at is just because a cable is rated at 32a dosent mean it has to be fused at 32a

Actually 6mm cable is rated over 32A, Why would you want to lower the protective device rating?? Your still thinking along the lines of protecting the appliance, and that's not the role of CU protective devices. As has been stated the lower rated protective device can be downstream, and even that device is not there to protect the appliance, ....It's there to protect the smaller/reduced cable!!!
Remember also, fixed appliances can't overload a correctly sized cable etc....

so going back to my garage supply example 2 way splitter 1 light 1 socket

4ft flou fitting wired in 1.5t&e 1.5t&e ref meth C cable therefore rated at 20 a

so accorrding to above the light would be fuse at 20a not 6a?

yes thats correct about 47a i think, but lets just use 32a for this instance. theres been no mention of referance methods in the original post so lets say the 6 mm is installed to ref meth 103 which brings 6mm down to a rating of 23.5a thats why my original post said 16a on the other side if u increase a cable size due to voltage drop u would not increase mcb size as this would increase the voltage drop

I don't really know what you getting at, you seem to be confusing two completly different aspects of cable and protection sizing here. One of which has no real relationship to the other.

In the original senerio, there is no reason why you can't reduce the breaker size, but there is no real reason too... Check your Reg bible, i think you'll find i'm correct in what i've posted on this thread....

that was all i was saying there is nothing wrong with rejuicing the mcb size! think we wasted enough time now, lol

You could if you wished, after all that Flu fitting will have a 3A fuse incorporated within it's connection terminals... One would have to ask then, why wire in 1.5mm in a garage with such a short run??

hear we go again lol most pop pack don't have fuses in em these days ,the garage i was refering to was massive LOL
i never use 1mm
