Cool White or Warm White LEDs?

I am having 14 downlights fitted in a kitchen - 13 sq metres , about 2.14m x 6.1m.

I have the option of Cool white 4000k or Warm white 3000k - how do I work out what I need?

It’s more what you prefer. Most of my customers preferred the warm white, cool white is a bit clinical IMO, although some prefer that look.

If you have a route about on the internet, there’s some manufacturers who’ll show the different colour temperatures for the same rooms.

Go to your local electrical wholesalers and buy 1 of each colour led lamps with a standard bayonet fitting to suit a light fitting in your house, try each one for a bit and see what colour you prefer.

I personally would have cool white in a kitchen but it is personal taste.

Cool white in kitchen, warm white in living room, red in bedroom. Sorted.

Is it. I tried working out how much that would be in old school watts light bulb but I soon gave up.

What Ip rating must I have in the kitchen and I am bit confused do they need to be fire rated for the kitchen?

unless you have a room above or its a new build .but for peace of mind fire rated ..

Warm white is the same as old incandescent light bulb or fluorescent. Cool white gives off a blueish light. Good for car showrooms.
It is personal taste.

A few LED downlights come as sealed units. No bulb to replace... and they have a switchable colour temperature. So you could change the lighting.

Hi- I like warm white and always use fire rated, one less thing to worry about .

well, just to upset everyone who likes mushy warm white, we got daylight in kitchen and bathrooms. 6000K. now even the missus can see the kitchen sink.

I've got cool white in the kitchen. I find it far better for cooking than warm white. 14 seems a bit ott though

I usually provide 4000k as a standard unless the customer wants 3000k specifically. Majority of downlight installs I do tend to be bathrooms and kitchens so 4000k suits the best.

14 does sound a lot for that size kitchen. I would go with the recommendations of the installing electrician with regards to manufacturer and number of fittings.
