There you go again.
I know how to use google/yahoo thanks.
The trouble is there is a mountain of often contradictory info out there. A forum like this ought to be a place where you can ask (sometimes dumb) question and get helpful suggestions/advice isn't it?

I did actually ask about changing the consumer unit but no one responded about that in the rush to poke fun/put down.

Sorry mate but you are making things harder for yourself.

Have you raised this with your fellow trainees on your course? Or asked the tutors?

So why not use them. You said finding part p info is difficult to obtain. There is enough info to give you a insight in them. Blimey heaven forbid but you could actually even phone them up and talk to a human being and them questions about there own scheme.

How do you think people managed before the internet? They got of there lazy arse and did some research themselves rather than just expecting to be fed it off the imternet, thats how.

I haven't read your original post sp thats why I haven't commented on that.

If I were to undertake a job that involved say changing a CU what sort of costs would be entailed (other than my labour and parts) ?

There is the Local Authority Notification that seems to be fixed ÂŁ58.75 < ÂŁ1000, etc.
What about the Certificates?

If the distributor does not have a switch do they charge todisconnect and reconnect - I assume they'd send someone out to do this?

Just trying to get a handle on the overheads.
Thanks.

whether they charge or not is up to their discretion. some do, some don't. best solution would be for you to get them to fit asn isolator. then it's only 1 visit. you connect tails into the isolator with it switched off, then you re-energise ( assuming that all your dead tests prove that the installation is safe to do so )

Out of interest, when a Local authority come out to test & inspect part P work, do they turn up on the day of the CU change or later & if so how do the go about isolating the supply if there is no isolator fitted before the CU?
Regards

They will come out to an already completed job, inspect a bit of it and ask you to do a few tests etc..

Why would they need a isolator to isolate the supply if all they are doing is testing the install?

Simply because some over cautious people would not even attempt to take the cover off a CU if it had a live feed. Just curious .

As long as the tails have been terminated into the CU main switch properly, and the switch is OFF, then opening the cover should not pose a problem.
Obviously terminated properly can mean different things to different people :tongue3:
