can anyone tell me where electricians stand doing work in some ones council house i have been dealing direct with the customer who is renting the council house he wants extra sockets in his kitchen would i have to contact the council

as long as works are certified as they should and notified if need be then the council tenant is the one who is required to contact the council beforehand. how would we know if it was a council / private or rented from a private landlord. :) just do the works mate and let the tenant worry about their bit

Yes, under part derr... I mean P, any work that involves the kitchen, bathroom or change of CU is notifiable to the Local Council Building Control officer. There was a HUGE chapter done on this very subject, by someone a lot more knowledgable than me, only last week. Type Part P into the search box of the orange tool bar at the top of the page. It will list all postings about it.

cheers for your advice guys im just gonna go ahead and do the work im not sure it comes under part p because im not making a new circuit just adding sockets by extending the ring

all work comes under part p in a dwelling but what you are proposing is minor works doesnt need to be notified but has to be inspected and tested and issued with a MEIWC

sorry just re read your post didnt see the kitchen bit as its in a kitchen has to be notified unless you are a member of a competent person scheme

so i can still do though work even though im just 17th ed qualified and not part p registered so long as i notify it

If you are not part P registered then contact the council and ask them first. In my area it is a must to be Part P regd to work on council houses, if you arent they will get snotty due to insurance requirements etc, they are aware that if you are registered, then you are insured, kitted up and competent, i am not suggesting that you aren't, but they won't take your word for it.

yes mate
but the tenant should ask permission to have this work done but like phil says thats there worry
and you are notifying that you are carrying out this work
they will charge you a fee my labc is ÂŁ190 which is a scam
they will send someone to inspect the work
you will have to give tenant a copy of cert, keep a copy yourself and send a copy to LABC to see if any further action is necessarry before they issue a building completion cert
Its minor works that you are doing but its in a kitchen event thought the regs doesnt class a kitchen as a special location the building regs class it as a room or part of a room that contains a sink ad food preperation facilities
so adding a lighting point or socket outlets in this location has to be notified to building control and all work has to comply with regs and part p approved doc

the labc dont know how it works there self as i have enquired about carrying a major job at my brothers for the assessment with elecsa and at first said they would send a electrician to inspect and test until i sent them a copy of approved doc p then they said he will inspect the work or get elecsa to inspect then they can reduce the fee accordingly
But elecsa dont carry out inspection for this purpose they are inspecting your work to see if your competent ad have carried it out to the regs

so labc are useless mate

Hi mate you dont need 2391-10 to apply for part p scheme with goverining body you dont even need the 17th but they will ask you to get it in the first year, but you need to possess sufficient technical knowledge of the regs and carry out the work in accordance with the regs

I know what you mean about part p its a scam and a sham
