Hi Folks, could someone answer a couple of questions please.

1. Should an underground SWA 6mm 3 core feed to a garage be RCD protected, the garage DB has an rcd but should there be one at the other end?

2. whilst testing an RCBO today, it passed the half x test, 1x was 35mS but the 5x was >40ms....should this be a number one?

Kind regards

1. SWA need not be RCD protected as long as the steel armour is earth bonded . 2. code 2 for the RCD fail, it's not an immediate risk of fire or injury.

thanks...i always thought underground swa's had to be RCD protected....can't think where i heard that.

As Tel said, but consideration should be given as to correct installation method, buried to right depth, and marker tape in place etc etc. If it is installed correctly then no RCD protection, if that cannot be ascertained then i would RCD protect it as a matter of course, belt and braces and all that.

Cheers............Howard
