Hey guys, I hope you dont get too much of this. I'm after clarification on which course to go for to gain my electrical certification.

At present I have completed a mechanical apprenticeship to NVQ3 followed up by a mech eng HNC but would like to gain a multi skill ability. I have the understanding but need to do some paperwork and theory improve at this point.

Looking at courses seems a little bit of a mess, I was recommended the 2330 but that doesnt seem to be available anymore. Could anyone suggest the appropriate route to take?

Yes thank you for confirming that. I understand that completing that will not grant me my electrical side alone and I will have to do some further work, is this correct? Is this the only way as I covered a reasonable amount of electrical theory during my apprenticeship and also during my HNC, I also have a good basic grounding of the practical side from my time on the job.

The standard specification that leads to being able to get a JIB gold card is to do the 2365 and then transfer over using recognition fo prior learning to the 2357 that will allow you to do the NVQ3 and the AM2.
Alternatively you can start directly on the 2357.
If you already have relevant qualifications and experience then you can talk to the college and ask if the qualification you already have will count toward the completion and if you can start at a higher level than the base level as you are already experienced.
If you already have documentation and a portfolio from your mechanical NVQ3 that will be relevant to the electrical NVQ3 then you should be able to use some of that evidence to fast track the NVQ.
You may also need to do your 17th edition exam (C&G 2382) to reassure employers that you are up to date.

From the ECS card website they state the following for the Gold card

Craft card: Electrician (Gold Card)

Apprenticeship Deeds or Completion Certificate

OR City and Guilds 2360 parts one and two
OR full 2351
OR 2330 Levels two and three AND NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Installation – Buildings and Structures) (City and Guilds 2356),
OR Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical systems and equipment (Buildings, Structures and the environment) (City and Guilds 2357)

Craft card: Electrician by Industry Accreditation (Gold Card)

Apprenticeship Deeds or Completion Certificate completed before 1st January 1994 PLUS bona fide references from your employers for the discipline and grade you are applying for

OR City & Guilds 2360 parts one and two completed between 1st January 1994 and 1st September 1999 PLUS AM2 assessment AND bona fide references from previous and present employers covering the last three years.

Hello again and apologies for bumping this up. My current line manager has queried the course based on the information I have provided and is a little concerned it may not be applicable for our needs.

A bit more background, I am classed as a mechanical engineering & maintenance technician and I work in heavy industry, firstly mining, then automotive and now steel processing. So electrical requirements will be primarily industrial, not house bashing as an example. We are usually dealing with drives, inverters, sensors, machine panels, PLCs and controls etc. Is the 2365 still applicable to that type of work?

Others I have found include those detailed in this link http://www.accesstraininguk.co.uk/electrical-courses/professional-electrician-qualifications

Also this (but I understand this is an apprenticeship?) Electrical and Electronic Engineering qualifications and training courses | City & Guilds

And various others, I must say this is all a little unclear as to the specific path, any suggestion with regards to the correct route? And thank you again for your patience.

The access training one is just a course for domestic electricians and does not contain any core qualifications.
The city and guilds NVQ that may be more appropriate is the 1788, this can be taken in a variety of directions, you would probably aim for electrical.
an NVQ means it is work based assessment, i.e. practical demonstration of your skills in a work environment.
