never knew they existed mate. but then my computer knowledge is 2 notches below homer simpson.

Yes m8, they are starting to get popular in recent times, now that the prices are dropping.
You can get a reasonably ok wireless one with pan and tilt too for around 60 quid.

I have bought an IP camera from a chinese seller . It works very well. And the price is also very worthwhile.
The store is on Aliexpress, and their store number is 908115. They have warehouse in UK, so I got the IP camera very quickly. I've heard they also have warehouses in many other countries.

How covert do you need ? Some of the Axis M series are quite discreet (certainly discreet enough for any purpose I've used them for!)

The Panasonic iPro Dome cameras are also fairly decent and a bit more affordable than most of Axis' offerings. One of the places I work has many of these and the quality is pretty good and they stream in low-bandwidth h.264 at a decent framerate.

You can get covert cameras built into PIRs (Passive Infra-Red) detectors, designed to look just like your standard alarm system PIRs.

Have also seen some designed to look like commercial/industrial style smoke detectors.

Those are all fairly cheap and cheerful analogue cameras though.

Any particular reason for going IP over analogue ?

Most DVRs will have network functionality built in and even with IP cameras, unless they have onboard flash storage/memory card, still need an NVR/Hybrid DVR to record to. Memory cards are okay but start getting expensive quick and typically don't store anywhere near as long you'd like, even recording only on motion.

If you must have IP, you could use an encoder/video server, however they are typically very expensive.

Mobotix make a devkit designed for ATMs etc. with a seperate mainboard that has USB or ribbon cable tails going out to the actual camera board and lens assembly which are quite compact and with a bit of engineering can be fitted wherever you like.

Mobotix also makes a 360 degree fisheye camera that looks a lot like a roof mounted PA/Evac speaker or residential style smoke detector.

Both are insanely expensive, although other companies are copying the idea of the fisheye camera.

They're not so much covert, more not at all obvious to casual observation.

Hope that helps.
